Description:

A gothic palace with a seven-arch loggia based on the Doge's Palace. After 1538 it was also property of the duke of Urbino. Palazzo Giovannelli is located in the parish of Santa Fosca.
The corner windows are singular. Initially, the façade was not symmetrical, as it is shown on a engraving by V.M. Coronelli. It was 'corrected' during the radical alterations made by Giambattista Meduna around 1847. Also the gothic stairway in the court was destroyed during these modifications. The loggia (originally arranged more at the left side) was moved into the middle and an additional window was added on the left. The other water façade (towards the Fondamenta Vendramin) was also altered: neogothic pointed arches which resemble strongly to those in the court of the neogothic palazzo Genovese (although built fifty years later) near the Salute church.
The palace contains also an octogonal interior staircase, also from Meduna's 19th century renovations.
