Description:

The palace, located at the opposite of the train station and next to the Scalzi bridge consists of two buildings arranged around a courtyard, which has a portal on the Fondamenta and a open stairway. While the left part with large round arches on the courtyard has three single windows, the right part with its five-light loggia also abandons the widely diffused tripartite floor plan scheme. The palace can be identified on a canvas by Canaletto, looking South-West from the Chiesa degli Scalzi to the Fondamenta della Croce, c. 1738. According to Carlo Ridolfi, Palazzo Foscari Contarini was once decorated with exterior frescoes by Lattanzio Gambara. Having served the Monte dei Paschi di Siena bank, the palace is currently for sale.
